Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan are separating after eight years of marriage. It's a breakup that's devastating to their fans. But some may have seen it coming.
Over the past few months, there have been several signs that their marriage wasn't perfect. Dewan said as much in an interview with Health earlier this year.
"When people say you guys have such a perfect life, I want to scream and tell them no one’s perfect," Dewan said. "I think a couple needs to be conscious and to want to do the work and be willing to look at the parts of you that need work."
Here are 6 signs their marriage wasn't perfect.
"I want to scream and tell them no one's perfect."
In her interview with Health, published in February, Dewan was frank about the problems in her marriage. She said she and her husband had worked on them, but that things weren't always as wonderful as they may have seemed.
"A couple needs to be conscious and to want to do the work and be willing to look at the parts of you that need work," she said. "Both of us have been pretty aware and willing to do that. We’ve always had the same values. But we’re not perfect! Are you kidding? We fight like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don’t really like each other."
Channing Tatum reportedly moved out months ago.
According to People, the couple had already been separated for months. Channing Tatum had reportedly moved out of the Los Angeles home he shared with his wife and 5-year-old daughter, Everly.
"This has been a long time coming," a source told People. "Like any marriage, they've had their ups and downs over the years but they really started to grow apart within the last year."
Channing Tatum botched his proposal.
Both Tatum and Dewan have openly talked about the importance of communication and how they struggle with it. They had one major challenge with that early in their relationship.
When Tatum planned to propose, he lied to her and said he never wanted to get married.
"When I proposed to my wife I did something pretty cruel because I thought she was on to me. I basically told her I never wanted to get married to try to throw her off,"Tatum told the BBC. "I told her, 'I don’t believe in the institution of marriage and I don’t think I ever want to get married.' She basically broke down crying."
When he saw how upset she was, Tatum backtracked and proposed to her. Still, the proposal caused some friction between them and may have been a signal of how the two may have misread each other over the years.
Something strange happened on Oscar night.
Another instance of their separation in March was the night of the Oscars. Dewan was on the red carpet while Tatum was at a restaurant with friends.
When "Entertainment Tonight" asked Dewan where her husband was, she said he was at home, babysitting.
"He is so happy to have a night off," Dewan said.
But according to People, Tatum wasn't at home at all. He was dining with a group of friends at Craig's restaurant that very night.
The two have been silent about each other on Instagram.
One of the ways the couple publicized their relationship was on Instagram, where they frequently posted photos of them doing cute things together. Those types of posts have tapered off significantly in the past few months, according to People.
