Courteney Cox recently discussed her relationship with Snow Patrol guitaristJohnny McDaid during an appearance on Tuesday's "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
"I understand you're spending a lot of time in London now, because your boyfriend, fiancé — he's your fiancé, right?"Ellen DeGeneres asked Cox of McDaid, who's originally from Ireland and now lives in England.
"He's not my fiancé. We were engaged to be married, but now we're just together," Cox clarified.
She went on to explain the mechanics of their relationship after DeGeneres expressed confusion as to why they would break off their engagement but remain a couple. Cox admitted that it sounds "strange."
"We broke off our engagement and he moved to England," the former "Friends" actress explained. "Then we got back together, and it's actually better than it was before. Everything's better."
"The distance — after that breakup, we were apart for six months — that really showed us a lot."
Cox and McDaid got engaged in June 2014 after dating for six months. In December 2015, however, People reported that the two had called it quits.

In August 2016, on an episode of NBC’s "Running Wild With Bear Grylls," Cox confirmed their reunion and said their relationship now exists in a "new context," and "it feels really different."
"We were engaged for over a year and then we broke up," she said during a hike with Grylls, as reported by Us Weekly. "The way he regards love is precious. We have to treat it in a different way. It's more special… You coddle it. So, I didn't know how to regard love the way he does. And it definitely made a lot of mistakes that I see, whether it's co-dependency or people-pleasing. I didn't know how to bring it in. It was always external. I definitely have learned a lot, and no matter what, I will be a better person from that breakup, even though it was so brutal."
