- Kylie Jenner's ex-boyfriend, rapper Tyga, was recently interviewed by Nicki Minaj on her Apple Music show, Queen Radio.
- When Minaj asked Tyga whether he helped "put Kylie on the map," he replied, "Everybody knows that. That's public."
- He went on to claim that he helped Jenner with "names and colors" for Kylie Cosmetics— and that he created her image in order to help her appeal to black people.
- Many people on Twitter found the claim that Tyga is behind Jenner's success to be ridiculous.
- Others noted that, because Jenner was a teenager when they began dating, Tyga likely did exert influence over her.
Tyga — a rapper, but best known by some as Kylie Jenner's ex-boyfriend — made an appearance on the latest episode of Nicki Minaj's Apple Music show, Queen Radio. During the interview, he staked his claim in Jenner's legacy as the soon-to-be youngest self-made billionaire in history.
When Minaj asked the "Rack City" rapper whether he "helped at all in putting [Kylie] on the map," he replied, "Big facts. Everybody knows that. That's public."
Minaj replied that "a lot of men say stuff like that" and defended the work that Jenner has put into building her career, but Tyga doubled down.
"What I will say about this — and I never spoke about it to anybody but I'll speak about it to you — is that you gotta look at the before-and-after," Tyga told Minaj. “She always had a platform and she was always destined to be what she was gonna be regardless, but when I stepped in — and it was a lot of codes being taught. It was like, 'you could do this, you should start this, you should start doing your hair like this, or you should do this.'"
Tyga went on to say that he influenced Jenner's image in a way that would help her appeal to black people. He also claimed that he played a major role in the success of her company, Kylie Cosmetics.
"You should adapt because you need black people to f--k with you, 'cause you need culture. If you ain't got black people behind you, you ain't got nothing," he told Minaj. "So I had a lot to do with all that — which I don't need credit for, I don't need to go online and tell people, like, 'I did this and I'm the one that helped her,' coming up with these colors and names on her, um — what is it, the lip line thing?"
"It was a lot of stuff but it's like, I'm not that bitter type of person because God is gonna pay me back," he continued. "The universe is gonna pay me back."
Jenner and Tyga have a long and controversial history. It's unclear just how long, as many believe their relationship began when Jenner was 16 years old — but they only confirmed their romance in 2015, when Jenner turned 18. She launched her first "lip kit" three months later and her subsequent makeup company in 2016.
The couple split in March 2017, just before Jenner began dating her current boyfriend, Travis Scott. For his part, Tyga told Minaj that he doesn't miss Jenner and that he has "no beef" with Scott.
"It's his time right now. You gotta let it ride," Tyga said of the "Astroworld" rapper.
Naturally, many of Jenner's fans found the claim that Tyga is the reason behind her success to be ridiculous.

Lmfao Kylie isn't self-made, facts. But no way in hell is she even partly Tyga-made 😂😂 https://t.co/H6VYPVSp7N

Many people also joked about Tyga's lack of commercial success with his music.
Wow okay, so this is the best thing I’ve ever heard😂 Did anyone really even know who Tyga was before he got with Kylie??? I knew he had that one song ‘Rack City’ but that is all 🤷🏻♂️ https://t.co/TAcqGLw18v

Some Twitter users joked about the 2016 TMZ report that Tyga's Ferrari was reposessed after he missed multiple lease payments. Jenner bought her then-boyfriend a Bentley the next day.
Tyga knows how to build Kylie’s career but not his own? Lol yeah ok mr. rack city go get your car out of the repo pic.twitter.com/sXROsse507

Others focused on the disparity between Tyga's success and Scott's, who is also known as "la flame" in the rap world.
LMFAO TYGA IS CLAIMING THAT HES THE REASON KYLIE IS SUCCESSFUL booooy you couldn’t even provide yourself with success and you’re mad that la flame got you beat on all fronts

Some people, however, noted that Tyga likely did exert influence over Jenner — especially considering her youth when they began their courtship.
Why the fuck is everybody applauding tyga for “building” Kylie when she was a fucking CHILD when they started dating OF COURSE he influenced her. 🙄

Something about this interview with him trying to take responsibility for her success along with the fact that she was a child when they started dating tells me a lot more about Tyga and Nicki than Kylie https://t.co/HekzJDhgNG

Only time will tell whether Jenner has a response to her ex-boyfriend's claim — though she has made a habit of keeping quiet about rumors and shade thrown her way.
